BEING OF SERVICE

The Aims of Scouting are character development, citizenship training, and mental and physical fitness.  The Boy Scouts are always looking for ways to invest time in making our community better and to help those in need.

Three months ago, fellow scout leaders Chip and Kathy Johnson of Auburdale, lost their family home in a fire.  The Johnson's received an insurance settlement, but the amount received did not cover the clearing of the destroyed home.  On December 22nd, Lake Region District Boy Scouts, comprised of packs, troops, and crews throughout Eastern Polk County, worked tirelessly to clear the homesite.

Tony Leopard of Pack 123 spearheaded the project and was instrumental in garnering sponosor support.  Carpenter Contractors of America, Florida Refuse, Brighthouse Networks, Walmart, Ray's Graphics, Lowes, and KL Smith all contributed to the project.

More than 50 scouts and adults turned out to give the Johnson's an early Christmas gift. The following units were represtented: Pack 115, Pack 123, Pack 534, Troop 123, Troop 515, Troop 525, and Troop 888.  Members of the Lake Region District leadership team were also on site.
